Norham & Berwick 1864 - England Sheets 1 & 2
This folded map which measures approximately 24" x 18" when unfolded is produced by Alan Godfrey and covers an area of about 18 miles by 12 miles. It shows railways, roads and canals, and gives a broad view of a wider area. It also includes an introduction and a more detailed map of a small town or village.
We include both sheets 1 and 2 here, covering the northern tip of England. Note that Scotland is left blank. The maps cover the area around and to the south of Berwick, south to Ancroft and Goswick Sands, west to Norham. A major feature is the large scale map of Norham that we include on the reverse, including Norham Castle, Galagate, St Cuthbert's church and the village centre. An extract from an 1897 directory for Norham is also included.
It is not possible to list the many hamlets, farmsteads and other topographical features shown on this map. The towns and principal villages or church parishes that are included on this map are:
Northumberland: Abcroft, Berwick upon Tweed, Horncliffe, Norham, Tweedmouth
It will be posted in a board backed envelope to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.
